Member Roles

Gifter Logo
TThe person who gave the plant cutting (known to Giftee). Gifters may have paid individual or family memberships, can create their own Original Plant Lines (OPL’s), and gift their cuttings. Gifters have access to information about their own Gifter and their Giftees.
Giftee Logo

Others sharing the same plant line who may not know each other. Plantcestors have limited location information based on membership level to see their own or others’ Plant Lines.

The person, pet, or cause to which a plant has been dedicated. Dedicatees receive a free membership and can see all Plantcestors in their Plant Line. The Giftor who dedicated the plant can invite the Dedicatee to become a member.

Plantcestry Partners

Organizations that partner with Plantcestry to match plants and cuttings to their members — such as nursing homes, hospitals, or nonprofits. Plantcestry tracks all registered plants with the Organization as the source.

Individuals who have blogs, websites, or social media platforms that provide plant and plant sharing tips and information.

Organizations or businesses unrelated to the plant industry who would like to market to Plantcestry members or promote their services on the Plantcestry public website.

Plant or plant-supply sources that would like to offer discounts or other benefits to Plantcestry members, and/or show as a source of Original Plant Lines its customers register on the public map.

Sharing Plants

All members agree to share propagations as gifts, not sell them. When registering a new propagation, each Giftee must confirm their plant was received as a gift. Members who sell propagations will have their membership terminated. The only exception is Original Plant Lines (OPLs), which Giftors have purchased from nurseries to share with others.

Plants are shared in good faith from Giftors who will make their best effort to share healthy plants. However, there is no guarantee that a Giftee will receive a healthy plant.

Giftors may ship plants to friends and family but must abide by all Federal and State rules and regulations. Plantcestry is held harmless from any law violation. See Resources for more information about shipping plants.

Posted photos must be of the plant only, or the plant with the Giftee or Gifter. No stock, AI, or copyrighted photos are permitted.

Plantcestry is not responsible for plants shared which may be toxic to animals or people. It is the Member’s responsibility to ensure Giftees are informed. Giftees are responsible for researching whether a plant is appropriate for their household.

In addition to the above, all Plantcestry members must agree to the Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and Member Agreement. (coming soon)
